Halloween - The Day After!

All is quiet now. There are no gangs of children roaming the streets, looking for free handouts. Not anymore. They had to stop before the Sun set. Those are the rules here is Gurnee.

The sun has just risen and I am sitting with Ally by my side, watching Peter Lorre. He has just attached new hands to Colin Clive, a pianist who's hands were amputated after a nasty trains accident. Of course, being a Halloween film shown on Turner Classic Movies, those hands belong to a killer, and not Clive has all types of problems.

Ally is my dog.

I DVR'd a bunch or classic horror films this weekend, and now are watching the ones I didn't get to over the weekend. Peter Lorre in a wonderful mad doctor.

The candy! What about the candy! Not too many children this year, so we have plenty left over. Is this a good thing?

The reception of yesterday's Coffee with Jeff was a bit of a disappointment. I worked harder on that episode than any other. I thought it turned out fantastic and expected a few more comments that I recieved. The Manchester Gallery was exceptional and Willy did a great season end piece. We will see how the week goes.

Anyway, now we have two months to try to put together some idea's for season 3.

Me and Kane

For a couple of weeks now, during Coffee with Jeff, I've been talking about explaining my fascination with the Orson Welles classic Citizen Kane. Instead of boring the folks that view the show with my story, I decided to write it out. Why not.

It was 1973 or 74 when this story took place. Sorry if I'm not quite sure but it was a long time ago.

One of the first changes from grade school to Junior High School was the joy pf picking some of your own classes. Junior High is sometimes called middle school. In out area is was grade 7th and 8th. A course in film study seemed like an easy one, so, of course I registered.

Now at this time movies were just a mild form of entertainment. I thought things like Tower Inferno and Dirty Mary Crazy Larry were classics. I really don't remember if these two movies were out at the time, but you get the idea. Movies were just something my and my friends went to so laugh, joke around, and eat a little popcorn.

And then near the end of the class, we watched the film that would change the way I look at films, and possibly the world. OK, I know that may sound a little pretentious but in some small way, I was introduced to film making as an art form and perhaps, to art itself. Not in a grand, I'm a changed person, I now wear scarfs spend my time at the art institute, but, and this is looking back 35 year, but one of the small seeds that help my grow into the person I am today. Wow, what a load of crap.

Now that I got that bull out of the way, the film!

I don't think I even new the name of the film. I remember the teacher telling us about Rosebud and trying to keep it a secret and that it was based of the life of William Randolph Hearst. I'm sure I really didn't care at the time. The only thoughts I probably had was, just show the damn movie!

I have a memory of being totally absorbed my Citizen Kane. I don't remember being bored at all. (I have receive that complaint my many people who've I've convinced to watch the film). It was a way of making films that I have never seen before. Suddenly I began to see the importance of the director. It was the way the film was shot, the angles and the atmosphere of every single frame of film, I found amazing.

And the story. What story? Although in later years I would begin to understand there actually was a story, but at the time I remember thinking how could a movie without a real story fascinate my so much. No one was trying to solve a murder or save a people from a burning building, no one was could in a silly situation because of a hair-brained scheme. It was just of a man and his life, and what others thought of him. Simple.

The one shot that I remember going on and on about was the one in which the camera pans up to the club Susan Alexander is singing at, though the sign, to the skylight on the roof and looks down into the club. Years later I would appreciate the depth of field used in many shots and much more but that was beyond my understanding in 7th grade.

I almost never recommend this film to anyone anymore. Too many people tell me how boring it is. I don't argue when they do. I know this is one of those films that isn't for everyone. When I friend goes to great lengths ti tell me why the new Adam Sandler film is a masterpiece, what are the odds they would appreciate at film like Kane!

What About This Blog?

As I said yesterday, I am making a real effort to increase the reader and viewership of this blog. I am working on a article about my search for intelligent blogs. Today. however, I think I'll write about this blog, and why it is so messed up.

Every Sunday, since the creation of this free blogspot blog, I've posted my show called Sunday Morning Coffee with Jeff. (And I appreciate you checking it out) but the problem with that is videos don't bring in viewers. Search engines, such as Google, recognize the written word and can't see what's in a video. So I think it will be up to my actual blog posts to bring in a audience.

And there lies the problem! My subject matter is all over the place. For a while I was reviewing movies and classic rock albums, I blogs about skeptical issues that were on my mind, then I was talking about my life, and all sorts of things. Write now, this blog has become a bitching ground for not being successful.

Does this even make any sense? Writing post's that will most likely drive readers away about how I don't have any readers? It is like owning a restaurant, telling people how crappy the food is, and wondering why they don't come.

The Worse of the Show Vol 1

When I started this show, Saturday Morning Coffee with Jeff, (originally it was on Saturday), it was more of a little joke that I was doing for friends and family. As time went on, I realized that I really enjoyed making this, so I began to work at making them better.

I took bits from the first couple of months of the show and edited them together. These all take place between February and March of 2009.

Enjoy!

My YouTube Experiment Week 2

So, most of the advice I seem to be getting is to properly tag your video. That and good description is what your YouTube video needs. This, of course is bullshit. Yet, that is what I am trying. After posting Sunday morning, by Tuesday morning I have a whopping 13 hits (and two of those is from me).

Now, I've been searching for answers to just how some of the most worthless, crappy videos get thousands, even millions of hits on YouTube. How is this possible, I ask?

They cheat!

Here is a good example of what is going on.

But beyond that, since I can't really do anything about the cheaters, and I refuse to cheat, what have I been doing? I've been looking fro good, original content, and when I find such content, I've been subscribing and leaving comments. This, obviously, is an attempt to get them to do the same for me. I should say, I only subscribe to videos I actually like, ones that entertain me! Hey, someone has got to do things the right way.

Viewership declining fast

Way back in 2009, The Sunday Morning Coffee show was the talk of the Internet. from the recent ratings, it would seem that very few even remember the show is still on. "This is not good" One TV executive said.

When asked about the recent decline, Jeff (host of the show) said, "We are just taking it one show at a time".

The jokes have already began - What is the difference between the Titanic and Coffee with Jeff? The Titanic had entertainment!

Rumor has it that Terrence, Willy and even his own son, Mark, have begun looking for new opportunities.

Stay tune for more later.

I Need a Pretty, Young Girl

So I've been posting Coffee With Jeff on Youtube for over a year now and the latest episode received 36 hits. Actually part 1 got 36 hits, part 2 - 12 hits and part 3- 8. Now I spend a long time coming up with thoughts and idea's, editing together clips and adding amazing footage from Terry, Willy and Mark and that in itself is fulfilling. Today, however, I come across this video:

This is a very pretty, young English girl but she is say, well, nothing. NOTHING AT ALL! Do you want to see how many hits this video has?

That's right, 327,721! So I'm thinking I need a sexy young lady, preferably with a accent to host Coffee With Jeff. So, here is my plea, if you are a young girl, pretty and don't mind growing facial hair and being called Jeff, and getting up at 5 A.M. twice a month, call me.
